When comparing GPS units this is considered a high area of concern with users. Consumers want a GPS unit that does not make mistakes, i.e., it tells you to turn right when you really should have turned left.
  2. Ease if Use - As an overall perception, how easy or effortless is it to perform the functions that the the GPS device claims to perform. How does this compare to other GPS units in it's class?
  3. Features - Does the GPS unit have the features that you expect? Based on the features that the GPS unit has, are there features that do not make any sense to either have or not have?
  4. Maps - Does the GPS unit come with appropriate Maps for what you intend to use the GPS device for? Did the product misrepresent the maps that were included in terms of detail, coverage and functionality? Does the GPS device successfully make it easy to update maps or add other maps?
  5. Voice Directions - Are you satisfied with the quality of the spoken audio from the GPS device in terms of accuracy, detail, audio quality and customization?
  6. Service - How satisfied are you with product support that you believe you will receive or have received if needed?
  7. Value for the money - Considering all of the things you expect your GPS device to be able to do, how satisifed are you that it accomplishes those at a price that is consistent with other devices that are similar?
  8. One Handed Operation - Ok, this one is pretty straightforward. Customers who expected their GPS device to be able to be used with one hand were asked to rate how well the GPS device accomplishes that. Or to put it another way, does the GPS unit seem to perform with one handed usage the way you expected it to, i.e., the way it was advertised?
  9. Satellite Connection - GPS devices rely on receiving radio signals from satellites that orbit the earth. Those signals can get obstructed and as a result the GPS can "lose" it's connection with satellites and stop working. GPS units come with different levels or quality of receivers, some of which will maintain those satellite signals much better than others. You'll pay a price for the better, more sensitve receivers. But the bottom line is that this rating is all about whether or not the device being rated satisfies it's user by not losing it's connection.
  10. Data Retention Time - Are you satisified with the duration of time it takes (or does not take) for the unit to retain data?
  11. Functionality - When comparing GPS units, you'll find that comments like "I always have trouble finding that button, it's too small to tap on" are related to the GPS units functionality.
  12. Maintains History - When you compare GPS units, many consumers find it important that the unit will record, or "log" a sufficient amount history information that can be recalled later. It is the length of time in the past (directly related to the digital memory of the device) that this attribute is all about.
  13. Convienence - There are so many things that can make a GPS product convienent. Is it easy to install? Is it easy to recharge the batteries? Do you feel that the GPS unit has any hinderances to it's operation?
  14. Battery Life - Uh, well, this ones pretty obvious. When you compare GPS unit features you will see that battery life is always at the top of the feature list in advertising and GPS specifications. Car GPS devices normally have rechargeable batteries compared to other GPS devices like handheld GPS units of which many have standard disposable batteries. But regardless of what type of device is being used, this is a ranking all about whether or not you think the device operates for a length of time that is consistent with the size, weight and output of the device.
  15. Sound Quality - Does that GPS unit give audio instructions clearly? Is the "voice" pleasant to listen to? Does the audio have other noise interferences with it?
  16. Visibility of Screen - Does the viewing screen of GPS device meet your expectations in terms of clarity of details, operation in all ranges of lighting conditions, viewablity at different angles, ability to reduce glare, etc?
  17. Driving Safely - If operated in a car, motorcycle, ATV, does the GPS unit operate in such a way that you do not have to divert any undue attention to it that would put operation of the vehicle dangerous?
  18. Printed Documentation - Did the GPS unit include sufficient printed documentation along with it when you purchased it?
  19. Voice Recognition - If the GPS has a voice recognition feature, does the unit sufficiently operate and perform that feature?
  20. Sexiness - Although some may scoff at this term when it is used in market research, it is really a word used to describe the level (or lack of) quality in the aesthetic styling. Although subjective, this is still really appropriate. Does the unit look attractive and does it visually augment the environment it is found in.
